Land Use

Land use changes have a major impact on water resources; processes such as agricultural intensification, deforestation and urbanization have not only altered water flows, infiltration, and runoff, but also the access to water. In many places around the world, land use policies, regulations and practices have thus contributed to water shortages, water pollution and increased flood risk, often with adverse effects for people’s livelihoods. The network aims to foster sustainable land use that takes into account the protection of water resources, the socio-economic well-being of people and equitable access to water.
